Every Day Should Be World Aids Day
The numbers are staggering. According to the CDC, approximately 50,000 people in the United States are newly infected with HIV each year.
At the end of 2008, an estimated 1,178,350 persons aged 13 and older were living with HIV infection in the United States.
Of those living with the disease in the US, 20% had undiagnosed HIV infections and only 28% have the disease under control.
Even more alarmingly, less than half the people living with HIV in the US have access to treatment.
In honor of World AIDS Day today, take a moment to educate yourself about the current crisis.
